The roof can dominate the cost
A broad low bungalow may require a large new roof area for relatively modest extra floor space. Valleys, hips and connections to the existing roof need to be drawn before the walls are built.
Ceiling height can be used well
A single-storey extension to a bungalow can sometimes use a vaulted ceiling without needing to coordinate with an upper floor. The roof structure and insulation build-up still have to provide enough depth.
Check how future loft plans fit
If the bungalow may later gain a loft conversion, an extension roof or new structural wall should not block the likely stair, dormer or support positions.
